Free B&N Summer Reading Program

June 23, 2009 - 2:31 pm 1 Comment

Once again, Barnes & Noble (one of my favorite stores), is having it’s Summer Reading Program. If you have children that like to read (like I do!), they can earn a free book just for doing what they love.

This program is open to all children in grades 1-6.

Here’s How It Works:

1. Kids read any eight (8) books of their own choosing.
2. Kids use the Summer Reading Journal to tell us their favorite part of each book.
3. Children bring their completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 26th & September 7th, 2009.
4. We’ll give them a coupon for a FREE book! They choose from a list of titles.

Click below to print out the reading journal.

My kids have done this in the past and have enjoyed getting their free book. Shawna is to old for it now but I’m going to see if Jacqueline wants to do it again :)

This summer, your children can bowl two games every day, for free. :) This first ever “Kids Bowl Free” program is designed by bowling centers to give back to the community and provide a safe, secure, and fun way for kids to spend time this summer.

Children who meet the required age limit, (set by each participating bowling centers) are eligible to register for two free games a day, all summer long. Click the link below to check for one in your area.
Free Summer Bowling.

Register directly on the bowling center page (The registration is valid only at the bowling center where you register and cannot be used at any other bowling center unless otherwise noted.)

After your registration you will receive two (2) emails. The first email is a welcome email and contains your account information. The second email is very important. This email does not contain coupons, but you will need to click the link confirming your subscription. If you do not click the link, their system will not send your weekly coupons to you.

The “program start” and “program end” dates are listed on the bowling center page that you register with. You can sign up for the program before the start date, but the coupons and family passes will not be loaded into your account until the start date has occurred.

Once the program has begun, you will receive an email every Sunday morning that contains a link to your coupons and family passes for that week. :)

National Get Outdoors Day: June 13, 2009

April 29, 2009 - 2:25 am No Comments

National Get Outdoors Day is a new annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Participating partners will offer opportunities for American families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities.

The pilot effort of National Get Outdoors Day was launched on June 14, 2008. Building on the success of More Kids in the Woods and other important efforts to connect Americans – and especially children – with nature and active lifestyles, the USDA Forest Service (FS) and the American Recreation Coalition (ARC) agreed to lead an inclusive, nationwide effort focusing on a single day when people would be inspired and motivated to get outdoors. GO Day partnered with federal, state and local agencies, key enthusiast organizations and recreation businesses to create a healthy, fun day of outdoor adventure aimed at reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting children to the outdoors. Last year, over 50 official GO Day sites across the nation from Anacostia Park in Washington, D.C. to the Big Bear Discovery Center in the San Bernardino National Forest welcomed thousands of new faces to the joy and benefits of the great outdoors.
